about
The first three tracks are all really fast, uptempo tunes! This tune, though, is the first time the listener gets a chance to “breathe”. It’s a slower, mid tempo, funky, kind of Blues: more laid back and easy going, nice and smooth.
I love the contrast of the raunchy guitar duel between Peter Johnston and myself in the middle section to help bring the energy back up with the more laid back feel of the first couple verses. The duel is short, sweet, and you can hear that Peter and I are really “talking” to each other with our instruments!
Lyrically, I wrote this tune about and for my partner. When I came out to her as being queer, I was so afraid she’d leave me- it wouldn’t be the first time it’d have happened to a guy in my situation.
Instead, she accepted me unconditionally, and supported me in my love life and my dream to find a loving boyfriend and also be with her: that’s what the line “and in the end it doesn’t matter what I like, you just accept me for who I am” refers to.
The whole song is about how she has been by my side, supporting me, and how much I love her and keep laughing with joy that she really is here to stay.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Sometimes the sunlight don't bring no solitude
Sometimes the sky don't brighten my day
But when I look around, I see your disposition
It sets me up and I'm on my way
You make me happy
You fill me with joy
Oh I keep laughing
'Cause I know you're here to stay
Now through it all it's been a bumpy road
We've gotten bruised, but that don't keep us down
Your arms are wide, your embrace is deep
I can't stop smiling when you're around
You make me happy
You fill me with joy
Oh I keep laughing
'Cause I know you're here to stay
And in the end it doesn't matter what I like
You just accept me for who I am
When the going's tough and the trouble is deep
You pick me up, you're my very best friend
And I love you
You make me happy
You fill me with joy
Oh I keep laughing
'Cause I know you're here to stay
You make me happy
You fill me with joy
Oh I keep laughing
'Cause I know you're here to stay
